Coffee Masters Skills is a custom built, game-based scenario driven platform to build foundational coffee knowledge, empowering employees to speak about coffee with clarity, consistency and confidence. Before partnering with Attensi, Costa relied on a traditional learning management system, mainly instructor-based delivery and limited in accessibility, which failed to engage the retail stores. Through the repetitive nature of the mini games and the leaderboard functionality, learners demonstrated clear improvement in confidence and knowledge across all modules as they progressed. Content was converted from 10 hours of e-learning content, to just 2.5 hours via the app – a saving of over 7.5 hours per employee. Competition ran across stores in the UK, Bahrain and Kuwait as well as individual battle mode. Accessible via mobile devices, tablets and web browser.
The benefits of this solution:
Over 90% of Costa colleagues reported that the new training platform has helped them perform more effectively. Gamified learning has proven to be a success. The repetition in certain elements of the new platform has been transformational allowing colleagues to acquire knowledge and skills in an engaging way.
As part of a global onboarding program and drive for Costa towards becoming a Total Global Coffee Company, a digital induction was required. Content existed in too many places and was inconsistent across territories, so the solution brought all the content together in one place making it accessible for everyone. By automating as much as possible, we put new joiners in the driving seat, giving them the resources they need when they need them in order to provide a consistent approach and experience and to help them navigate the business.
Built in Gomo, the solution provides an adaptive, personalised experience translated into 3 languages. By creating a virtual Costa world consisting of 5 regions for the learner to explore, including History and Heritage, Culture and Sustainability, we devised a learning journey that allows for a self-directed exploration of content in the form of quizzes, videos, podcasts, self-reflection and infographics to maximise engagement. Using progressive storytelling, virtual avatars and badge collection also helped to drive completion. Built using Gomo, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.
A playful digital learning that was used as part of a wider communication campaign to support team members to understand the three components that make up Total Rewards at Costa – Base pay, Incentive and Benefits. The more transparency around Costa Reward strategy and the key drivers for reward decisions, the more team members can feel they are fully informed and included.
Built using Articulate Storyline, the solution is a game-based challenge set in a coffee shop where the learner interacts with 3 virtual colleagues, each presenting a number of different scenarios. Against the clock they must make a decision based on the information provided as to the best course of action. Feedback is provided and points are awarded in the form of stars for the best answers, which are then converted to cash to allow for the modernisation of the coffee shop.
An e-learning to ensure everyone at Costa takes care of data security and privacy by achieving a consistent base level knowledge. Costa handles sensitive information every day, from card payments taken in stores to commercially-sensitive information that the Support Centre colleagues process. Built using Articulate Rise so the module is fully responsive and accessible on all mobile devices.
